Tapestry of Colour – My Natural Habitat
The Blue House Gallery Schull, West Cork 19th May- 7th June. 2023
Etain Hickey’s solo exhibition of her ceramics, for which she is well known, and her
watercolour paintings is currently being held in The Blue House Gallery Schull.
Etain brings her love of clay and watercolours together in a body of colourful life affirming work. Her art is a celebration of life. She expresses her appreciation and enjoyment of nature with vibrant colour and fluid spontaneous strokes of the brush. The imagery of birds, bees, hares, frogs, and flora comes from the natural environment which Etain so obviously delights in, can be seen on her wall dishes and bowls.
A six month stint in Australia last year, out of her pottery studio, where she was surrounded by exotic birds feeding in the road side trees and on native flowers, inspired her to start painting bright warm watercolours. On her return this further fueled her enthusiasm for exploring her love of colour, patterns, movement and textures using rich
glazed and lavish decorating techniques incorporating gold lustre in her ceramics which mirrors her watercolours beautifully.
This beautiful solo exhibition runs until June 7th.
