August 13th - Artist Talk: Observations, Techniques & Sculptures

Tracton Arts Centre, Minane Bridge, Co. Cork
2.30 to 4pm

Cork Potter’s are delighted to present a talk by artist & Sculptor, Patrick O’Hara. Having earned a living entirely from working with clay for 50 years, Patrick O’Hara has built a worldwide reputation for his own style of botanical works of art – making unique, life-size, porcelain sculptures.

Patrick’s abiding concern is that his work should be used to champion the conservation of plants in their own natural habitats. The work is based on his observation of the growing plants with their associated insects and small animals, so helping to understand the relationships that are what ecology is all about.

With no formal training in ceramics, other than one year of sporadic evening classes, Patrick approached working in clay as a scientific experiment in lateral thinking, combined with study of various historical developments.

He will talk about these techniques and how they helped him achieve his ambition for his work to help promote the conservation of plants and insects. He will also talk about the necessary selling and marketing methods that helped him achieve that – and earn a living for nearly fifty years.

August 28th - Demonstration: Slab Built Sculpture

Come and watch how Brendan Ryan builds these beautidul sculptures of Irish domestic architecture.
