We are delighted to shine a spotlight on Society member: Martha Cashman. Here is an update on her recent activity.

 

Martha was selected for the Artists Collaboration 2022 with DCCOI and Irish Fashion Council for their annual autumnal cat walk event. https://irishfashiondesigners.com/ 

Martha was partnered with designer and painter Caroline Duffy. They took the theme of Herbal healing in the garden, focusing on the herb Sage. Martha textured porcelain clay with various sizes sage leaves, glazed and high fired the pieces and had them set into a caplet to top the dress Caroline designed, her painting was printed on silk.

Martha was invited to the International Art Symposium in Cucutain Romania again this year. It took place on March 7th to 18th 2023. There she created a large scale piece for the outdoor sculpture park.

Martha was selected for the World Craft Council’s Artist Exchange 2023, She selected Lauren Moreira, a Brazilian friend living in Italy and founder of MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC to collaborate with on this exchange. They finally got to meet and create work together. They both are set to travel to each other’s studios this April and create work for this event.  

Martha also took part in the Tonnta exhibition in the Uillinn Arts Centre, Skibbereen over the last Christmas period.

Last summer 2022 her sculpture work was selected for Sculpture in Context at Botanic Gardens Glasnevin along with her outdoor installation of ceramic Birdfeeders from Martha’s Eco Awareness Project MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC IRELAND.  

An installation from the same project MCLPI was selected for Earth Rising at Irish Museum of Modern Art Kilmainham Dublin 2022.

Her sculptural work was selected for the cover of a poetry book: “The man who died Twice” from Eugene O’ Connell on the collection of poems from 15th century travelling Irish poet Eoghan Rua.
