About

Ba Hons. Art & Design Bradford University 2000

In college I spent most of my time at the wheel throwing different types of clay, looking only at ceramics from the Far East, drawing elements of the landscape at home or away and reading about Bernard Leach, Soyetsu Yanagi, Shoji Hamada, Tomimoto, Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie and others.

Things have not changed much except that I am hand building. The forms depend on what is influencing me or what is going on in my life. The desire for balance and an aesthetic value in the end result remains the same.

I am drawn to works that have been made by the hands of anonymous craftspeople  throughout the millenia with extraordinary skill. These are my inspiration.
