About
Sara Roberts is perhaps best-known for capturing the drama of her native West Cork coastline in beautifully glazed porcelain. Mounted and framed to be wall hung, Sara’s work ranges from elegantly realised natural studies to more abstract and thought provoking exercises in mood and atmosphere. From the cliffs and open beaches of the Atlantic coast to a baroque poker of foxgloves or a humble roadside fern, the artist’s hand is recognisable in every piece.
With a long design background, attention to imagery, form and presentation comes naturally. As a ceramicist, she now enjoy the challenge of portraying her natural environment, the allure of its ever changing textures and colours, – images actually created from their constituent parts – earth (clay), sand (glaze) rocks (pigments). Distant horizons and detailed foregrounds create a three-dimensional effect, drawing the viewer deep into the landscape and beyond…
A member of the West Cork Craft & Design Guild, Sara has exhibited throughout Ireland and Europe and her work can be found in many private and corporate collections.
Visitors are always welcome to view current work or discuss a private commission at the gallery, in Sara’s open studio near Kinsale
She also runs short courses there (with an accommodation option) where students can become absorbed in creativity as well as enjoying the wonderful natural environment surrounding her home.
