About
My work in ceramics is deeply inspired by my connection to the land where I was born, the Irish landscape. A bond that has shaped not only my creative vision but also my sense of self. Living in North Cork the Ballyhoura mountains have always been my constant backdrop. The mossy forests, flowing streams, moody mountains all find their way into the flowing shapes, textures and tones of my work. Not to replicate but rather embody a sense of belonging to the land.
How I create my work is hugely important to me. Each piece is shaped gradually by hand, the slower pace encourages creative exploration and problem solving, often leading to more meaningful and personal outcomes. Slow ceramics fosters a sustainable practice by reducing waste and encouraging thoughtful consumption, aligning with values of craftsmanship patience and respect for natural rhythms.
In 2021 when I was forced to adopt a slower pace of life due to long covid I returned to The Crawford College of Art and Design to an evening ceramics course, having studied ceramics there many years previous. Following this I set up my home studio in Churchtown North Cork where I continue to develop my work.
